Stansted Brought To Hault
57 Plane Stupid protesters cut through the perimeter fence at London Stansted Airport on Monday 8th December causing 52 flights being cancelled and leaving thousands grounded. It happened around 3an when the runway was closed for maintenance, all the members involved in the protest where arrested by police and enquires are still taking place. BAA, the airport operator, said it would learn any lessons that emerged from the breach, but the GMB union said that it had been pressing for a security review. Ryanair, Stansted’s largest airline, described the disruption as unacceptable and called for an investigation into why BAA had failed to keep the airport “secure and open”.
