Ryanair Axe Blackpool Flights - Update 26/11/08

Ryanair have today confirmed that they are to cancel all flights from Blackpool Airport after the creation of the new airport development fee (ADF) which all passengers departing from Blackpool must pay from 5 January. The £10 fee has recently been announced by the airport to help develop the airport and all passenger aged 16 and over are required to pay the additional charge.

The airline however is set to announce a new route between Dusseldorf Weeze and London Gatwick. Currently Ryanair flys to Cork, Dublin and Shannon and in December they will add Alicante and Barcelona Girona to their network giving them a larger presence at the airport and challenging their biggest competitors on the popular sun routes.

Update - 26/11/08
Ryanair have confirmed the new London Gatwick - Dusseldorf Weeze route which will operate daily from 07th January 09. The new route to Dusseldorf Weeze will be switched from its London Stansted base where Ryanair has reduced capacity by 20% as a result of high costs at Stansted.
